Pastoral Ministries
Christians have lovely ways to care for each other, some of which are listed below. There are always opportunities to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.
Epiphany is a caring community – quick to reach out and help each other in times of need with practical help and to offer prayers for those in need.
During church service, we pray for those in need during the Prayers of the People. We also have a Prayer Chain Ministry, whose members pray daily for those inneed. Judy Moeckel coordinates the Prayer Chain. you may reach her at jmoeckel@comcast.net You also may call the church office at 860-349-9644 to add a name to either list.
Christians have always been known for their love for each other, and helping out is one of the major ways we demonstrate this love.
There are official channels of help, too.
Pastoral visitors are available to visit shut-ins and parishioners who are recovering from recent hospital stays.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) are chosen by the Vicar and trained to take communion to shut-ins and hospitalized parishioners. They take bread and wine that is consecrated during the Eucharist service, and the parish prays for the persons they are to visit. It is a way of including them in the service, even when they cannot be present. LEMs receive specific training and are licensed by the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut.
Ministers of Communion are also licensed by the diocese. They are trained by clergy to assist during the Great Thanksgiving portion of the service. They help administer communion to the people as they come forward to the altar rail for Eucharist. Their role is to take the Chalice.
Lay Readers are also licensed by the diocese and are trained by clergy to read scripture lessons and psalms during the service as well as to be prayer intercessors during the service. This means that they lead the Prayers of the People during the service. Some are especially trained to lead Morning and Evening Prayer (lay-lead services that we use occasionally).
We also have Intercessors who lead the parish in the Prayers of the People which is a part of every worship service.
The Acolyte Corps comprises children and teens, 2nd grade and older, who serve during our worship service. They are trained by our Acolyte Master, David White. They serve as Crucifers, Torch Bearers and Acolytes. If your child would like to serve as an acolyte, please call the church office at 860-349-9644
If you are interested in participating in any of these ministries, please call the churchoffice at 860-349-9644 or email the office at office@epiphanydurham.org.
